Move Over Celebrity Chefs!

I was more than delighted to see The Aussie Dumb A*se Cookbook lined up on the front shelf next to other celebrity cookbooks at Pages and More Bookshop at Westlakes Shopping Centre in Adelaide recently.

Book 2 in the Pipeline

Yes indeed; work has begun on a sequel – after all there is still so much to share! If you have any ideas for inclusions, drop me a line. I will be sure to keep all DA cooks posted on the progress. It won’t happen in a second, but it will happen!

Senior Citz Rock

Thanks to the Cleve Activity group who invited me up to speak to some of their more senior residents. A bonus was the terrific book sales and the wonderful lunch they invited me to stay on for afterwards. (I can tell you that I was very tempted to join them in their Scrabble and cards after lunch but didn’t want to outstay my welcome!)

Triple J in Tumby Bay!

In April our small town came alive to the tune of 10,000 hyped up
Triple J fans for the station’s annual One Night Stand Concert.

I’m pretty chuffed to say that the band members of Art Vs Science,
The Jezabels, Birds of Tokyo, local hero Joshy Willow and the crew from Triple J are all enjoying their own copy of The Aussie Dumb A*se Cookbook. Radio presenter Rosie Beaton thought it was hilarious and very useful!

Thanks too to everyone who dropped by the book stand that weekend.

Super Cool CWA Visit

Later in April I was asked to talk at a combined CWA day on the history of the book.  It was great to get to share the stories on how it all came about – but the best bit was……..(you guessed it), the awesome CWA morning tea that followed! Thanks ladies and I too, like to hope I am doing my bit to keep the art of cooking alive.

The Aussie Dumb A*se Cookbook Heads to the Big Smoke!

The Aussie Dumb A*se Cookbook hit the ground running after a recent invitation from the Burnside Library to give a talk as part of their Youth Week celebrations.

The fully booked out session gave the participants the chance to broaden their culinary knowledge with the Veggie Quiz before trying their hands at making Sushi.

Simple cook book to be launched

NEW local author Lisa Fitzgerald never set out to write a book but when her son left home five years ago she typed out a copy of the dog-eared family recipe book to equip him to manage on his own, with the recipes he grew up with.

The photocopied book was titled The Aussie Dumb Arse Cookbook and was given to a few nieces and nephews for Christmas but demand grew with more and more people who heard about it approaching her for a copy. The catalyst to publish book was when a travelling book seller saw the photocopied book and said it would sell really well, convincing her to publish it.

A trial print run sold out last year and the full colour updated version is ready for re-release.

Although the book was initially put together for young people Ms Fitzgerald said it was for all ages and she hopes the entertaining style - and the quirky name - will appeal, especially to those who would not normally pick up a cook book.

"The name of the book (The Aussie Dumb Arse Cookbook) may not be everybody's cup of tea but it's definitely meant as a term of endearment and for a lot of people it was what attracted them to the book in the first place," she said.

The book is full of basic recipes using staple ingredients that everyone has access to but there are also plenty of tips and it is marketed as a general survival guide for the domestically challenged.

"It's pretty much how to cook and not end up at the hospital,"
Ms Fitzgerald said.

"I'm just an ordinary mother; there's nothing Master Chef or Margaret Fulton in there."

"It's the book parents would like to have time to write for their kids but don't."

There are some familiar faces in the book that many readers will recognise with lots of family and friends roped into some fun photo shoots to illustrate the book thanks to the expertise of Kerri Cliff from Fresh Eyre Photography.

held a “Witty Blurb Competition" to come up a caption for the back cover of the book.
